England s Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland brought about the end of Roy Hodgson s reign as national team manager after four years in charge.
Hodgson took over from Fabio Capello in May 2012 and led England at Euro 2012, the 2014 World Cup and the current European Championship.
His appointment came just ahead of the 2012 tournament and Hodgson had little time to have an impact on the squad, but they reached the last eight only to be beaten on penalties by Italy.
In qualifying for the next two tournaments England showed sensational form, but on the big stage they froze with a group-stage exit in Brazil and a humiliating 2-1 defeat to Iceland in France.
Immediately after Monday s defeat Hodgson s resignation was announced, here we look back at some of …
Matt Ritchie scored a brilliant stoppage-time equaliser as Newcastle United edged closer to Premier League survival with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Joshua King had scored twice, including a fine strike nine minutes from time, to put Eddie Howe s side on the brink of a come-from-behind victory.
But Ritchie scored a superb volley in the fourth minute of added time to haunt his former club, as Rafael Benitez s men moved seven points clear of the bottom three with as many games to go.
Salomon Rondon, who struck twice against Bournemouth in November s reverse fixture, had earlier put Newcastle ahead with a glorious free-kick just before half-time.

Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested Wayne Rooney s criticism of his behaviour at Manchester United is rooted in jealousy.
Ronaldo has been the subject of a great deal of scrutiny this season, having pushed for a move away from United ahead of the August kick-off.
After staying at Old Trafford, the United great fell out of favour under new manager Erik ten Hag and was widely criticised for refusing to appear as a substitute against Tottenham.
Ronaldo stormed down the tunnel during that match and was subsequently suspended for United s next game.
Ten Hag has reintegrated Ronaldo, but his role remains the subject of debate, with former strike partner Rooney weighing in this week.
While some of Ronaldo s other team-mates have defended him, Rooney said the…
Christopher Nkunku has been ruled out of the World Cup after the France striker suffered a knee injury in training on Tuesday.
The RB Leipzig frontman took a knock in a challenge with Eduardo Camavinga as they contested a 50-50 ball and he had to be helped off the field.
It was later confirmed Nkunku will not travel to Qatar after tests revealed he had sprained his left knee.
The French Football Federation sent Nkunku s medical file to FIFA in order for the defending champions to call up a replacement.
He is expected to be replaced by either Wissam Ben Yedder, Moussa Diaby, Morgan Terrier or Randal Kolo Muani.
Head coach Didier Deschamps and the squad are due to depart for their Doha base on Wednesday.

Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez pointed to history as evidence his reigning champions will again be contenders at the Copa America.
Tabarez led Uruguay to the title at the 2011 Copa America the country s 15th while he has previously taken his nation to the last four in 1989 and 2007.
The 68-year-old reckons that his record, plus Uruguay s historical dominance at the Copa America, means the title-holders deserve respect in Chile.
Concerning the statistics, I tell you it will be my fourth Copa America and I always played semi-finals and two finals, one time I got a win, and the other one I lost, Tabarez said on Friday.
But, this is history, it is something that happened.
It could be a historical trend. This one is Copa America number 44.

Senegal s new coach must be a French-speaking one, the African nation s FA president has revealed.
Augustin Senghor said the list of candidates to lead the North-Western country on the football field has been cut from 60 to just six, as they look to replace the role vacated by Amara Traore who had held the post since 2009.
We are progressing little by little in scrutinising the applications for the post of Senegal coach, which are up to 60, Senghor told reporters in Dakar.
We now have a shortlist of about five to six coaches which we are currently working on. In a day or two, that list will be brought down to two candidates.
I can t reveal those names now but what is certain is that we ll finally choose somebody from France or Belgium, because we wan…
