Senegal s new coach must be a French-speaking one, the African nation s FA president has revealed.
Augustin Senghor said the list of candidates to lead the North-Western country on the football field has been cut from 60 to just six, as they look to replace the role vacated by Amara Traore who had held the post since 2009.
We are progressing little by little in scrutinising the applications for the post of Senegal coach, which are up to 60, Senghor told reporters in Dakar.
We now have a shortlist of about five to six coaches which we are currently working on. In a day or two, that list will be brought down to two candidates.
I can t reveal those names now but what is certain is that we ll finally choose somebody from France or Belgium, because we want a coach that can speak fluently the French language.
Former Senegal coach Bruno Metsu, who was recently dismissed by Qatari club Al-Gharafa, is rumoured to be among the favourites to secure the position.
The 58-year-old Frenchman has also applied for the Ivory Coast job following the expiration of Francois Zahoui s contract last month.
We will try to name a new coach before the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers beginning early June and before our team s workshop of mid May taking place here in Dakar, Senghor said.
